Three year degree course is affiliated to Indian Maritime Universtiy (IMU), Chennai. The course is approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and meets the requirements as prescribed in the TEAPS Manual of the DGS. On successful completion of training from RLINS the student will be eligible to obtain necessary documentation from authorities and join merchant ships as a trainee engineer. Five short term STCW courses (PST, PSSR, EFA, FPFF & STSDSD) which are compulsory for any one who aspires to join the merchant navy, will be conducted during semester holidays.

Educational Criteria:
  • Candidates with at least 55% marks overall in 3 year diploma in Marine / Mechanical / Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering of 4 years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from any Institute approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education.
  • Minimum 50% marks in English either in 10th or 12th or Diploma Examination
  • The candidate should have completed the diploma within its stipulated duration of 3 years.
  • Age: 18-25 years.

Note: In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks which will not applicable to English Marks.

Medical Examination: Medical Examinations are conducted by institute recognised Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) approved Doctors. Standard of such medical examination is general in nature and can be obtained from the Doctors on request. Eye Sight:
  • Distance vision (unaided 0.5 *(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in better eye and 0.33 *(6/18) in other eye;  and
  • No Color Blindness and Night Blindness shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.
