OCCP (Orientation Course for Catering Personnel)

RLINS was established in the year-1999 with an objective to impart knowledge through education & training in the Marine field to prospective aspirants
who wish to take up a career at sea and to explore the world.
The courses currently being conducted are
1. B.S (Marine Engineering)-4yrs
2. B.Tech (Marine Engineering)-4yrs
3. G.M.E (Graduate Marine Engineering) Course-1 yrs
4. E.T.O (Electro Technical Officer) Course-4 Months.
The new course is to commence with effect from September’ 2016, known as OCCP-"ORIENTATION COURSE FOR CATERING PERSONNEL"- which is of a Month Duration.

Objective of the Course

The Directorate General of Shipping has started OCCP with an aim at developing Marine catering personnel for those with a Certificate / Diploma / Degree in Catering or Hotel Management.
It is felt that there is ample scope of employment in Merchant Ships / Cruise Ships and Passenger Liners for such Candidates who have qualified in Hotel Management with OCCP qualification.
This Course offers a Golden opportunity for candidates to work on Merchant / Cruise / Passenger Ships.

Educational Qualification :

1. Candidate should have Passed 10th or 12th standard Exam from a recognized board with minimum of 40% Aggregate marks (Any Group).

2. Candidate should have secured a minimum of 40% marks in English language in 10th or12th standard examination from a recognized  board/University.

3. Candidate should have obtained Certificate / Diploma / Degree from an institution duly recognized by state board UGC / approved university in any of the following disciplines in Hospitality & Hotel Administration, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Catering, Culinary arts, Hospitality & Tourism

Age :

1. The Canditate shall be within the age of 18 - 28 years, as on date of commencement of the course

Medical Examination :

1. Must be found medically fit by Institute recognized Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) approved Doctors.

Eye Sight :

Catering Department (including Bhandaries and Utility Hands) Distance Vision (Unaided): 0.33 (Values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) (6/18) in each eye; or 0.5 (Values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) (6/12) in better eye and 0.25 (Values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) (6/24) in other eye. Normal colour vision (To be tested by Ishiara test chart)

Salient Features at RLINS

  • The orientation course for Catering Personnel shall be of 12 days duration.

  • 5 Mandatory STCW courses of 14 Days Duration.

  • The maximum intake capacity shall be limited to 20 students in a batch. The frequency shall not exceed 12 batches in a year.

  • Adequate infrastructure with the latest modern equipments.

  • Course approval by Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.

  • Experienced and trained faculty.

  • During the course assistance will be provided in getting the following documents which are mandatory for seafarers while service on board.

  • A PASSPORT(If a candidate does not possess a passport, College will assist him to apply for passport )

  • INDOS (Indian National Database of Seafarer)

  • CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate)

  • Certificate of competency as Ships Cook awarded by D.G.Shipping.
  • Well designed and equipped modern equipments imported from Italy for the students to learn the
    essentials of Safe cooking & Galley Familiarization with hands on Training.
