High Voltage Safety and Switch Gear (HVSSG)

Aims :

   
  • To educate and train Marine Engineers and ship board Electrical Officers to operate and manage High Voltage Electrical Plants of over 1000 volts.

 
  • To impart knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency requirements set out in the specific part of the STCW Section A-III/2,Table A-III/2and Section A-III/3 at the management level as given in the STCW convention and code as amended in 2010.

 
  • To impart knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out in the specific part of the STCW Section A-III/6,Table A-III/6at the operational level as given in the STCW convention and code as amended in 2010.

 

Objectives :

   
  • To upgrade the knowledge skill and competency of MEO with COC and Electro Technical Officers for the Management Level course

 
  • To upgrade the knowledge skill and competency of Junior Marine Engineers and Electro Technical Officers for the Operational Level Course.

 
  • The above is applicable for the Marine Engineering Officers and Electrical Officers working on ships powered by main propulsion machinery above 750 kW and having onboard, electrical installations of above 1000 volts.

 
  • To impart training for the safe operation and management of high voltage systems onboard and their associated switch gear.

 
  • The trainee shall be able to understand the HV/LV power systems including statutory regulations, hazards associated with high voltage systems.

 
  • The trainees shall be able to safely operate and maintain such systems. The trainee shall also be able to perform HV switching operations on a wide range of marine and offshore power equipment, as well as carry out isolation, fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.

Management level Course (5 Days) :

Marine Engineering Officers who have MEO Class I/Class II COC


or


Have Completed Sea time of not less then 12 months in the capacity of Electrical Officer/Trainee E/O & Class IV COC.


Operational Level Course : (1 Day)

The following officers are eligible to attend the Operational  Level course:

MEO Class IV COC who have successfully completed an approved Pre Sea Training Courses for GME/DME/ATS/4 year BE/B.Tech(Marine Engineering)

                                                               or

Trainee Electrical Officer who have successfully completed  an approved Pre-sea Training courses for ETO.

Management Level Course: 5 days (Starts from every Monday)

Operational Level Course: 1 day (Every Monday)

  • Sight Seeing / Tours to Madurai,Kodaikkanal Rameshwaram and Kanyakumari on request at actuals (Extra).
