Electro Technical Officer

This is a 4 months(17 weeks) course known as Electro Technical Officer Course (ETO Course) (without high voltage) (As per STCW 2010) to be employed as Electrical Engineering Officer in Merchant Navy.
RLINS is approved by Directorate General of Shipping(DGS) to conduct this ETO Course.
On successful completion of the course, Electrical/Electronics Engineers gain eligibility to be employed in Merchant Naval Ships. The course is structured and conducted as per DGS guidelines with practical demonstrations by Simulators, Audio Visual aids and valuable hands-on training.

Five Basic Safety Training Courses (PST, PSSR, EFA, FPFF & STSDSD) which are mandatory, will be conducted at the institute.

Practical hands-on training on live equipment and simulator based training are given along with theory subjects. On successful completion of this training at RLINS, the student is eligible to obtain necessary documentation from authorities to join merchant ships as a trainee Electrical Officer.
After successful completion of the required sea time, candidates are eligible to appear for Certificate of Competency(COC) examination, conducted by Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, as ETO.

Employment Opportunities

Every sea going vessel must carry atleast one Electro Technical Officer depending on the type of vessel.

Since Electro Technical officer is an essential requirement, there is a heavy demand in the International Shipping Industry.

 

Eligibility:

Educational:

Pass in 10th Standard & 12th Standard from a recognized board.

AND

Pass 4 years BE/B.Tech Degree including Lateral Entry with 50% marks, in Electrical Engineering, EEE, ECE, Electronics and Telecommunication, or Electronics and Instrumentation, or equivalent. The candidate must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th exams.

If a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th standard exams shall be eligible provided the candidates secures 50% in the degree exam and the medium of learning in degree was English.

OR

The Candidates who were admitted in Diploma  course on the basis of Matriculation only and went to complete their B.E./B.Tech degree course as a lateral entry in the 2nd year of the degree on the basis of Diploma, and has secured 50% marks, in Electrical Engineering, EEE, ECE, Electronics and Telecommunication or Electronics and Instrumentation, or equivalent. The candidate must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th standard exams.

If a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in 10th standard exams shall be eligible provided the candidates secures 60% in diploma or 50% in degree exam and the medium of learning in diploma or degree was English.

OR

Pass 3 years Diploma with 60% marks, in Electrical Engineering, EEE, ECE, Electronics and Telecommunication or Electronics and Instrumentation, or equivalent. The candidate must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th standard exams.

If a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in 10th standard exams shall be eligible provided the candidates secures 60% in diploma  exam and the medium of learning in degree was English

Note: The Diploma or Degree courses must be recognized by any state or Central Government or the AICTE

Age: Maximum 35 years of age as on Course commencement date

Educational:

1. Pass in +2 with Physics, Chemistry Mathematics or equivalent vocational educational course and English as separate subjects
2. Minimum 50% marks in English in either Class X or Class XII or Diploma or Degree.
3. Passed three years Diploma with 60% marks or four years Degreee including lateral entry, with 50%marks in Electrical Engineering,Electronics Engineering,Electrical And Electronics Engineering, Electronics And Telecommunication / Communication Engineering or Electronics And Instrumentation Engineering.
4. Diploma/Degree courses should be from any institute approved by AICTE or State Board Of Technical Education.

Age : Maximum 35 years.

Medical:
Medical Examinations are conducted by recognised Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) approved Doctors.

Standard of such medical examination is general in nature and can be obtained from the Doctors on request.


Eye Sight:

  • Distance vision (unaided 0.5 *(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in better eye and 0.33 *(6/18) in other eye; and
  • No Color Blindness : shall be tested by ishihara test chart.
  • No Night Blindness.
  • A Second Eye test will be conducted by institute’s Ophthalmologist at Madurai to ensure complete compliance with the requirement.
  • If you fail in this second eye test, the admission will be withdrawn and the amount paid will be refunded after deducting administrative charges.
