Tuticorin Port Visit 2026
Cadets of GME, ETO and GP Rating courses from R.L. Institute of Nautical Sciences participated in an educational port and ship visit to Tuticorin during May 2026 as part of their practical maritime training programme.
During the visit, the cadets had the opportunity to board and observe a brand-new vessel, where they gained valuable exposure to various onboard machineries, shipboard systems and operational procedures followed in the maritime industry. The cadets closely observed the engine room setup, auxiliary machineries, electrical and automation systems, cargo-related operations, safety equipment and maintenance practices carried out onboard.
The visit also provided first-hand experience of live port operations, cargo handling activities, logistics coordination and port safety procedures at one of the major ports in South India. Faculty members and onboard technical personnel explained the functioning of critical shipboard equipment and operational practices, helping the cadets understand the practical application of their academic subjects.
This practical exposure enabled the cadets to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-time maritime operations, thereby enhancing their technical knowledge, operational understanding and professional confidence. Such industrial and onboard training visits play a significant role in preparing future marine engineers, electro-technical officers and seafarers for successful careers in the shipping and maritime industry.
